Jeanette Walker - Artists Statement

Jeanette Walker in the StudioJeanette Walker is a Designer/Goldsmith who works from her studio in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island. Since graduating with honours in 1993 from the Jewellery Arts Program at George Brown College in Toronto, she has specialized in custom design. Using silver, bronze, copper, gold and platinum, Jeanette has created an artful collection of fine jewellery.

Using the ancient techniques of Repousse, Sand casting and Forging, Jeanette and apprentice Sherry Younker hand craft these quality pieces completely in the PEI studio. These primitive techniques are not frequently used by today's jewellery makers, who often opt for faster and more convenient modern methods.

Jeanette creates unique jewellery pieces of contemporary design that carry a flavour of the past.

There is nothing more satisfying to me than the hands on manipulation of metal. To have a flat sheet of metal take on a relief sculptural form, by use of a simple hammer, punch and pitch bowl is always an amazement and splendor for me. I feel objects made by human hands appear to have a distinct presence of personality and soul.
