Lindsay Walker - Artists Statement

Lindsay Walker was raised on Prince Edward Island and like many young Islanders, felt the need to search for new experiences in the excitement of bigger places. He soon realized, however, what he had left behind and twelve years later, with his partner Jeanette an accomplished jeweller, moved back to the Island to pursue his art.
Like most artists, Lindsay draws inspiration from his surroundings and so the urban landscape of the city was replaced by the rural landscape of PEI - farm life and animals, abandoned equipment and rusting automobiles.
His paintings are uncomplicated, depicting quieter, simpler times and Island traditions. In his frank depiction of everyday subjects, he hints at the delicate balance between man and nature and how we run the risk of losing that balance forever.
I get tremendous satisfaction in paying homage to the old ways. My roots are in Atlantic Canada, via Scotland. My ancestors lived through very difficult times, and I respect their hardships. I feel my work connects me to the past, and I hope it will let other people feel the same.
